PM Wellness Update/Announcement

Hello Students,

At an effort to keep everyone safe during PM Wellness, we are implementing a new sign-in/sign-out policy effective January 2, 2019. All students who wish to participate in PM Wellness will check in with the adult supervisor for the day. You will be asked for your name, time in, time out, and if you are choosing to play in the gym or wellness center.

Once a student signs out for the afternoon they will not be allowed to return to PM until the following day.

If you have any questions please let me know.  Thank you and have a great vacation!

December Wellness Student Spotlight!

Congratulations to Amelie Martin for being named December Wellness Student Spotlight! In addition to being one of the kindest and most respectful person to both adults and students, Amelie is a hard worker in class and very friendly. Class is better because Amelie is in it!

Way to go Amelie!

Let's learn a little more about Amelie...
  1. First and Last Name: Amelie Martin
  2. Grade: 8
  3. What elementary school did you come from? Happy Hollow
  4. Tell us about yourself. What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time, I like to play violin, play tennis, hang out with friends, and watch tv.
  5. Why is being active important to you? Being active is important to me because it makes me more motivated and energized.
  6. What advice would you give to a student who doesn’t like to exercise? Try finding a sport or active activity that you like with your friends. Exercise doesn't have to be just going to the gym. School sports like track or cross country can be fun, and you don't have to have experience for them either.
  7. Favorite Wellness unit and why. My favorite wellness unit was handball because when we did that unit in 6th grade, I participated more and made new friends.
  8. When I want a healthy snack I reach for...fruit and nut bars.
  9. To relax I… To relax I play violin and sleep.
  10. If I were a WMS Wellness teacher I would add tennis to the curriculum.
  11. On my first day of school I wish I knew...On the first day of school I wish I knew to talk more to people other than just people I already knew.
  12. Tell us something about yourself most people would be surprised to know. Something people would be surprised to know about me is that I am allergic to gluten.

In my free time I like to play mostly soccer and basketball, but I also like to read and hang out with friends/ family.
Why is being active important to you?

Being active is important to me because it helps your body stay in shape. If you don’t stay in shape it’s going to affect you later in life. Also playing sports is fun!
What advice would you give to a student who doesn’t like to exercise?

If someone doesn’t like to exercise I would probably give them the advice of doing stuff they enjoy.

Favorite Wellness unit and why.

My favorite wellness unit is probably lacrosse because I haven’t played lacrosse before and I’ve had had a surprise liking into it.
When I want a healthy snack I reach for...

2018 Operation Gratitude Candy Drive!

The Wellness Department is pleased to announce the 9th annual operation gratitude candy drive to support the troops. Bring your Halloween candy to school & deposit it into your class container. Candy will be collected from  7-7:30 in the front lobby on November 1, 2, 3, & 5.  Let the friendly class competition begin!

Check out this video below about Operation Gratitude.

ACCORDING TO THEIR WEBSITE:

Operation Gratitude (https://www.operationgratitude.com/) annually sends 150,000+ care packages filled with snacks, entertainment, hygiene, and hand-made items, plus personal letters of appreciation to New Recruits, Veterans, First Responders, Wounded Warriors, Care Givers and to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed overseas.

Candy is just one of the way we can help. Operation Gratitude welcomes donations of individually wrapped toothbrushes, floss, and toothpaste. If you would rather make a financial donation you can click here to do so.

All the candy will be dropped off at Wayland Dental (https://www.waylanddental.com/)
located at 131 Main st. According to Dr. Michael Putt, Army Veteran and owner of Wayland Dental, receiving care packages while deployed provides a connection to home and can help lift the soldier's spirits. Dr. Putt is able to participate in Operation Gratitude due to the generosity of Mark Silverman, President of Mark's Moving & Storage (http://marksmoving.com/). Mark and his employees will take all the donated candy and ship it to Van Nuys, CA where it will be used to assemble care packages for our troops.

Thanks so much for your help!
