Workout/Dance Routine Project
This unit is a wonderful opportunity for you to explore your creativity and to work cooperatively with your peers! You will be presenting either a dance routine or a fitness routine to the class.
You may pick your own group of 2-3 people. The teacher has the right to change groups. I may add someone to your group or take someone away. How you handle this change will factor into your grade. Don’t be afraid to work in mixed gender groups or work with someone you don’t normally work with. This is a great chance for you to show me that you are willing to go outside your “comfort zone” and truly challenge yourself. Have fun with it!
Option 1: Dance Routine
Create an original dance routine to the song of your choice (school appropriate please). All members must have a downloaded copy of the music. Do not rely on one person for the music. You can also practice your routine without the music and “step it out”. Your routine must be at least 3 minutes and no longer than 6 minutes. You will present your dance to the class as a performance at the end of the unit and if time allows will teach the class all or part of your dance.
Step #1: You will need to pick appropriate music.
Picking a dance genre (circle all that apply):
Ballet Hip Hop/Funk Swing Modern
Multi-cultural Jazz Samba Disco
Tap Ballroom Flamenco etc.

Step #2: You need to decide how to choreograph your routine.
You can’t copy choreography for one dance entirely and present it as your routine. (i.e. a You Tube clip).
Rhythms (Circle and write how many beats):
Rope jumping Juggling Dribbling Martial Arts
Gymnastics Other:_____________

Attached is the assessment rubric. The most important things to remember are to stay on task, work hard, concentrate on the flow of your routine, make sure all of your members are included and have fun! “Solos” are o.k. if a member of your group has a special talent he/she would like to display, but all members of the group should be moving.
Option 2: Workout Routine
Create an original workout routine. The routine will be at least 8 minutes long and will be no longer than 12 minutes. You can consider this a segment of a workout routine. You may do a warm-up, a cool-down, a cardio-workout, a circuit training workout, a strength workout, an isolated workout for a specific body part (such as the abdominal muscles, the legs, the arms, the hips and butt, etc.) or another type of workout as approved by me. If you are not doing a warm-up or cool-down for you 8-12 minute routine, you must still include a brief warm-up and cool-down. You will be assessed based on the rubric attached.

Requirements for workout segment:
- Creation and Documentation -
- Create your own segment of a routine that is at least 8 minutes long.
- Incorporate at least 8 different movements in the routine
- Include a warm-up and cool-down if not the focus of your routine.
- Provide your own music for this routine if needed (I must approve this before presentation)
- Record necessary information as listed below.
- Create a catchy name for your workout (Ex. Mr. Wood’s Wicked Ab Blast)
- Participation - Each member must actively participate in the project
- Presentation - You must explain the focus of your routine. You must also present the segment to the class. You, as a group, will walk around to make sure everyone is doing the routine correctly. Remember to tell the class tips for not injuring themselves. Examples of these safety precautions would be: "Make sure to relax your neck and use your abdominal muscles to pull yourself up" (crunches). " Make sure your toes are in front of your knees when squatting." "Be sure to breathe out at the hardest part of exertion."
